Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. Although investment in drug discovery and development has been soaring, the number of approved drugs has been declining. The use of animal models helps to increase our knowledge and provides new approaches to improve the diagnosis and treatment of these pathologies. However, genetic and environmental factors play an important role in cardiovascular pathophysiology, making it difficult to match a particular disease with a single experimental model. Therefore, there is no exclusive method to perfectly reproduce the human complications, and depending on the model, additional infrastructures, costs and the requirement for professionals should also be considered. With all of these facts in mind, one should choose the model that best reproduces the disease being investigated. Creative Bioarray has long-standing experience of conducting preclinical studies in different rodent models of cardiovascular disease. We offer consultancy and preclinical models of cardiovascular disease including hypertension, arrhythmia, heart failure and atherosclerosis. Our scientific expertise in cardiovascular disease, combined with our experience in animal models, provide solid data as the basis for decision-making.

Hypertension

Hypertension is one of the most important risk factors for the development of cardiovascular disease. It is heterogeneous, and influenced by a variety of interacting genetic and environmental factors, the incidence of which varies with plasma renin activity, sodium sensitivity, and age. Creative Bioarray provides a detailed list of hypertension models that significantly enhance our understanding of the disease processes, as these models allow for the control of different contributing factors.

  • 2 kidneys-1 clip (2K-1C) models
  • 2 kidneys-2 clip (2K-2C) models
  • 1 kidney-1 clip (1K-1C) models
  • Deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-induced hypertension models
  • Angiotensin II-induced hypertension models
  • N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME)-induced hypertension models

Arrhythmias

Sophisticated electrophysiological techniques are available to study cardiac pathophysiology both in vivo and in vitro. These techniques make it possible to study the underlying mechanisms of arrhythmias and conduction disturbances. Creative Bioarray has established various animal models to understand the underlying causes, origins, possible mechanisms, manifestations and to develop new therapeutic strategies for supraventricular and ventricular tachycardia.

  • Aconitine-induced arrhythmias
  • Acetylcholine (ACh)-induced atrial flutter
  • PACAP-27-induced biphasic chronotropic effect and atrial fibrillation
  • Atrial fibrillation by fibrillation pacemaker
  • PRKAG2 overexpression mice

Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis is a complex disease affecting arterial blood vessels and blood flow that may lead to many life-threatening consequences. Disease models with diverged genomes are necessary to understand the genetic architecture of this complex disease. Creative Bioarray is experienced in the production of atherosclerotic mice. These animal models have greatly contributed to our understanding of the mechanisms involved in atherosclerosis and allowed for the evaluation of therapeutic regimens.

  • Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) knockout mice
  • ApoE*3 transgenic mice
  • Low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR)-deficient mice

Heart Failure

Animal models of heart failure do analyze the physiological effects of cardiac dysfunction relative to isolated organs or cells, which are of great importance in the overall heart failure phenotype. Creative Bioarray has various acute and chronic heart failure models that can be used to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy and safety of new compounds or devices before testing in humans.

  • Coronary ligation
  • Aortic banding
  • Cryoinjury
  • Doxorubicin-induced heart failure
  • Transgenic models

Study Endpoints

Our study design is flexible and customizable, providing the best solution for evaluating the in vivo efficacy of your compound. Our main study endpoints include:

  • Doppler echocardiography
  • Coronary artery ligation, reperfusion
  • Blood pressure (diastolic, systolic, mean)
  • Heart rate
  • Morphological and functional biomarkers
  • Blood volume
