Proteases are one of the largest enzyme family encoded by the human genome. By catalyzing the hydrolysis of peptide bonds, an enzymatic reaction contributes to the regulation of proteolysis mechanism that is the core of many physiological and pathological processes, such as cell proliferation, embryonic development, tissue remodeling, protein activation and maturation, protein transport, and protein catabolism.
Proteases play a significant role in a number of signaling pathways and represent potential drug targets for diseases ranging from cardiovascular disorders to cancer, as well as for combating many viruses and parasites. Currently, there are eight approved compounds for the treatment of HIV infections that are in the class known as protease inhibitors. In addition to HIV, protease inhibitors have been approved for treatment of the Hepatitis C, ACE inhibitors, are being studied in relation to Type II diabetes, Alzheimer disease, and other indications.
Creative Bioarray provides access to a fully defined, flexible profiling and screening service for potential drug inhibitors of protease targets in drug discovery. Our flexible services of over 50 proteases spanning across cysteine, metalloproteinases, serine, threonine, aspartic families and other protease targets have been designed to facilitate your drug discovery process.
