Recombinant CHO-K1 cells have been engineered to stably overexpress human adrenoceptor beta 1 (ADRB1) on their surface. These cells contain high levels of the G protein Gαs, which is crucial for coupling with the receptor in downstream signaling pathways.
Drug screening and biological assays
The ADRB1 gene encodes the beta - 1 adrenergic receptor, a G protein-coupled receptor. It is primarily expressed in the heart, where it plays a crucial role in regulating cardiac function. Activation of ADRB1 receptors increases heart rate, contractility, and conduction velocity, leading to an increase in cardiac output. It is also involved in the regulation of lipolysis in adipose tissue and glycogenolysis in the liver. ADRB1 receptor agonists are used to treat conditions such as heart failure and bronchial asthma, while antagonists are used for hypertension and angina pectoris.
