A CHO-K1 cell line has been engineered to stably overexpress human C-C motif chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) on its surface. This cell line contains high levels of the G protein Gαi, which is essential for coupling with the receptor in downstream signaling pathways.
Drug screening and biological assays
The CCR5 gene encodes a chemokine receptor that is a co - receptor for the entry of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) into host cells. It is expressed on the surface of T lymphocytes, macrophages, and other immune cells. CCR5 binds to chemokines such as CCL3, CCL4, and CCL5. In addition to its role in HIV infection, CCR5 is involved in the regulation of immune cell trafficking during inflammation and immune responses. Genetic variations in the CCR5 gene can affect an individual's susceptibility to HIV infection and the progression of AIDS.
