A CHO-K1 cell line has been genetically engineered to stably overexpress human receptor activity modifying protein 1 (RAMP1) and calcitonin receptor (CTR) on its surface. Amylin receptors (AMYR), which are unique protein heterodimers consisting of a CTR paired with one of three receptor activity-modifying proteins (RAMP1, RAMP2, RAMP3), form three distinct subtypes (AMY1, AMY2, AMY3).
Drug screening and biological assays
The AMY1 gene encodes salivary amylase, an enzyme that initiates the digestion of starches in the mouth. It breaks down complex carbohydrates into smaller polysaccharides and oligosaccharides. The expression level of AMY1 can vary among individuals and populations, and it has been associated with differences in dietary starch intake and adaptation to different diets.
