Recombinant CHO-K1 cells have been developed to stably overexpress human 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 1A (5-HT1A) on their surface. These cells also contain high levels of the G protein Gαi, which is essential for coupling with the receptor in downstream signaling pathways.
Drug screening and biological assays
This gene encodes a G protein-coupled receptor for serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT). It is involved in regulating mood, sleep, pain perception, and cognitive function. Abnormal function of this receptor is associated with depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia.
