Recombinant CHO-K1 cells have been created to stably overexpress human 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 2B (5-HT2B) on their surface. These cells contain high levels of the G protein Gαq, which is essential for coupling with the receptor in downstream signaling pathways.
Drug screening and biological assays
This gene encodes one of several different receptors for serotonin that belong to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. Serotonin receptors mediate many of the central and peripheral physiologic functions of serotonin, including regulation of cardiovascular functions and impulsive behavior.
