Recombinant CHO-K1 cells have been engineered to stably overexpress human adrenoceptor alpha 1A (ADRA1A) on their surface. These cells contain high levels of the G protein Gαq, which is crucial for coupling with the receptor in downstream signaling pathways.
Drug screening and biological assays
The ADRA1A gene encodes the alpha - 1A adrenergic receptor, a G protein-coupled receptor. It is widely distributed in smooth muscle tissues, including blood vessels, the urinary tract, and the prostate. Activation of ADRA1A receptors leads to smooth muscle contraction, which results in vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels), increased urinary resistance, and prostate smooth muscle contraction. It plays important roles in regulating blood pressure, urinary function, and prostate - related physiological processes. ADRA1A receptor antagonists are used to treat conditions such as hypertension and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
