A CHO-K1 cell line has been created to stably overexpress human calcitonin receptor (CT) on its surface. This cell line contains high levels of both G protein Gαq and Gαs, which are essential for coupling with the receptor in downstream signaling pathways.
Drug screening and biological assays
The CALCR gene encodes the calcitonin receptor, which is a G protein - coupled receptor. Calcitonin, a hormone produced by the thyroid gland, binds to the CALCR receptor. Activation of the receptor leads to a decrease in blood calcium levels by inhibiting bone resorption and increasing calcium excretion by the kidneys. It also has effects on the gastrointestinal tract, such as reducing gastric acid secretion.
