Background

G protein-coupled receptor 40 (GPR40), also known as free fatty acid receptor 1 (FFA1), is a receptor for medium- and long-chain free fatty acids. It is expressed in pancreatic beta cells and plays a key role in regulating insulin secretion in response to increased plasma fatty acid levels.
