Recombinant CHO-K1 cells have been engineered to stably overexpress the human somatostatin receptor 2 (SST2) on their surface, and they contain high levels of the G protein Gαi, which is involved in coupling with the receptor to facilitate downstream signaling pathways.
Drug screening and biological assays
SSTR2, or the somatostatin receptor 2, is another G-protein coupled receptor for somatostatin. It has a higher affinity for somatostatin than SSTR1 and is widely expressed in the brain, pituitary gland, pancreas, and other tissues. SSTR2 activation leads to inhibition of hormone secretion, cell proliferation, and neurotransmission. It is a target for somatostatin analogs used to treat acromegaly, neuroendocrine tumors, and other conditions.
