Recombinant CHO-K1 cells have been designed to stably overexpress the human somatostatin receptor 4 (SST4) on their surface, and they contain high levels of the G protein Gαi, which is involved in coupling with the receptor to facilitate downstream signaling pathways.
Drug screening and biological assays
SSTR4, or the somatostatin receptor 4, is a G-protein coupled receptor that binds somatostatin with relatively low affinity compared to other SSTR subtypes. It is expressed in various tissues, including the brain, lung, and kidney. SSTR4 activation leads to inhibition of cell proliferation and modulation of immune responses. Its exact role in physiology and disease is still being elucidated.
