Background
Guanylyl cyclase C (GUCY2C) is a particulate guanylyl cyclase receptor, GUCY2C belongs to a family of mucosal cyclase receptors. It is a transmembrane receptor for the endogenous hormonal ligands: guanylin and uroguanylin. GUCY2C is expressed only in intestinal epithelial cells and by nearly 100% of colorectal cancers. They play an important role in preventing colorectal cancer.
