Background

ACE2 (Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2) is a key enzyme in the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) and serves as the receptor for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19. ACE2 is widely expressed in various tissues, including the lungs, heart, kidneys, and intestines, and plays a crucial role in regulating blood pressure and fluid balance. CD3-zeta (CD3Z) is a component of the T cell receptor (TCR) complex and is essential for TCR signaling and T cell activation. Mutations in the CD3Z gene can lead to immunodeficiency disorders characterized by recurrent infections and impaired T cell function.
