Drug screening and biological assays
The NRAS proto-oncogene is a member of the Ras gene family, NRAS protein can bind GDP/GTP and possess intrinsic GTPase activity. The NRAS gene provides instructions for making a protein called N-Ras that is involved primarily in regulating cell division. Mutations in this gene lead to abnormal persistent activation of downstream genes such as Raf kinases, leading to tumorigenesis. Ba/F3, a murine interleukin-3 dependent pro-B cell line is increasingly popular as a model system for assessing both the potency and downstream signaling of kinase oncogenes, and the ability of small-molecule kinase inhibitors to block kinase activity.
